The Asset Category object allows for flexible classification of individual Asset Units in the IT Asset Management system. Unlike rigid type-based grouping, categories can represent purpose-driven, functional, or contextual groupings — for example: Accounting Laptop, Developer Laptop, Temporary Loaner, or High-Security Asset.

Each Asset Unit can be associated with multiple categories, enabling a multidimensional approach to organizing, tracking, and managing assets across departments, roles, use cases, or compliance needs.
